Boat for All Makes a Successful Crossing of the Canal!

With the conceptual aspects of Bridge for All moving forward, the team also created Boat for All so as to increase the number of activities around the Teizan Canal and attract attention. The boat in this work is modeled on umabune, wooden boats that were once used on the Teizan Canal. On August 4th, Kawamata and his team joined the event Teizan Canal Ferry Boat and Shinhama Footpath (organized by the Shinhama Neighborhood Association) and a launching ceremony was held for the completed boat.

Produced with staff who accompanied Kawamata from France

The boat is manoeuvred, pulled by a rope tied to the opposite bank

The launching ceremony featured traditional celebratory steamers, and prayers for safety were made with sacred sake and salt

Participants got together with people living in the area at Home for All in Shinhama and discussed their impressions of activities to date, together with prospects for the future
